{"id":55,"date":"2012-08-31T21:29:24","date_gmt":"2012-08-31T21:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.notnull.ro\/log\/?p=55"},"modified":"2015-08-06T20:56:07","modified_gmt":"2015-08-06T20:56:07","slug":"vim-on-android","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/notnull.ro\/log\/vim-on-android\/","title":{"rendered":"vim on android"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Few months ago I&#8217;ve bought an Android tablet made by <a title=\"EeePad Transformer TF101\" href=\"http:\/\/www.asus.com\/Eee\/Eee_Pad\/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101\/\" target=\"_blank\">ASUS<\/a>, together with the docking keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>Until few days ago I didn&#8217;t use to much the keyboard, it is useless for browsing and games.<\/p>\n<p>In one weekend I had to go outside of town (no internet) and I still wanted to code some simple PHP pages.<\/p>\n<p>So I was looking for an editor, but looks like it was not easy to find someting convenient on google play store.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve try few editors but non of them was what I wanted.<br \/>\nI was looking for at least two features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>fast enough when editing<\/li>\n<li>syntax highlighting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Because I&#8217;m very comfortable with vim, in the end I just search on google play store for <a title=\"VI iMproved\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vim.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">vim<\/a> &#8230; <!--more-->et voila: there is VIM for Android.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s name is <a title=\"VIM Touch for Android\" href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/vimtouch\/\" target=\"_blank\">vim touch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It has most of the features of the <em>real<\/em> VIM.<br \/>\nAt least the syntax highlight , auto complete and all search features are in place.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.notnull.ro\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Screenshot_2012-08-31-23-10-59.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-57\" title=\"VIM Touch\" src=\"http:\/\/www.notnull.ro\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Screenshot_2012-08-31-23-10-59-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"VIM Touch\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/notnull.ro\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Screenshot_2012-08-31-23-10-59-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/notnull.ro\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Screenshot_2012-08-31-23-10-59-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/notnull.ro\/log\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Screenshot_2012-08-31-23-10-59.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;ve made a screenshot of the vim touch application, to have an idea about what I&#8217;m talking about.<br \/>\nTo make the user&#8217;s life easier there are shortcuts like &#8220;yy&#8221;, &#8220;pp&#8221;, &#8220;:w&#8221;, &#8220;:wq&#8221; alaready on your screen.<\/p>\n<p>I had to admit that editing using the touch screen is slow, very slow (you have to switch a lot between alphanumeric chars and programming symbol).<br \/>\nBut having a docking keyboard is like you are using a notebook, much easier.<br \/>\nAlso the docking keyboard of ASUS Transformer TF101 has a built in battery which will extend(double) the autonomy of your tablet .<\/p>\n<p>If you own a tablet for which there is no docking keyboard , then exists the possibility to use a bluetooth keyboard, and your vim will be fully functional and fast enough.<\/p>\n<p>If you found some other good PHP\/HTML editor for Android please leave a comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Few months ago I&#8217;ve bought an Android tablet made by ASUS, together with the docking keyboard.
